Elise Anipa – Level 3 Health & Social Care

Achieved: D*D*D*

I am an ex-student of Leyton Sixth Form College and I studied Level 3 Health and Social Care. It impacted my journey to success as I went on to study Adult nursing at a top university for nursing which was the University of Southampton. I completed three years and ended with a 2.1 in BSC Adult Nursing honours degree.

While studying at Leyton college we studied many good units in which I still find beneficial today. I studied anatomy and physiology which was my first unit in university and constantly used in my nursing career. I will definitely need this unit throughout my life as a Nurse. Another unit I felt that was beneficial was the safeguarding unit and health promotion as they both link well into my newly qualified post. Furthermore, this course allows you to study so many subjects in one such as sociology and psychology and in a good amount of detail which was good and two of my most enjoyable units.

While studying with Leyton Sixth Form College I had two placements which I enjoyed, mine were both in elderly care, The first being a day care centre and the second a residential care home. In both, I was able to successfully complete my interviews for university as I could talk about my relevant experience in relation to the course I applied for. Currently I am a newly qualified registered nurse working as a tissue viability nurse.

Claudia Catalao Fernandes – Level 3 Health & Social Care

Achieved: D*D*D*

Studying an applied general course is important especially in Health and Social Care because it enables individuals to learn how to provide holistic care to individuals with specific needs. The course enables students to explore many job opportunities such as nursing, social work, teaching, and many other good career choices. The course also prepares students for higher education with knowledge and experience.

My journey in health and social care has led me to study Adult Nursing and I would not change my decision for anything. I had undertaken a placement whilst studying health and social care at Leyton Sixth Form College where I assisted nurses in a Dialysis Ward, and it made me realise my passion to help and support others in need. A unit within the course contributed to my development in placement which was Unit 5 – Anatomy and Physiology; this helped me understand more in-depth of how the renal system worked, what would happen if there was renal failure. I thoroughly enjoyed my time studying Health and Social Care at Leyton Sixth Form College.
