 What is the course about?

This course provides an attractive alternative to the traditional A Level for students who prefer to have more practical element in engineering. The fundamental philosophy of this course is that, you actively experience the engineering environment including electrical and electronics engineering.

BTEC L3 National Extended Certificate in Engineering is equivalent to a full A-Level.

The College has made substantial investments in its Engineering and IT infrastructure; we have some of the latest software and a specialist network/hardware laboratory. The course is run by highly trained and qualified teachers with a proven track record of high achievement at all levels.

What units/topics will be studied?

BTEC L3 National Extended Certificate consists of 4 units of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are external.

The units are including:

Engineering Principles (External exam)

Delivery of Engineering Processes Safely as a Team (Mandatory – internally assessed)

Engineering Product Design and Manufacture (Externally assessed)

Electronic Devices and Circuits (Optional – internally assessed)

 

What do I need to study this subject?

• At least 5 GCSEs grades 9 - 4 including ‘5’ in Maths, ‘5’ Science and ‘5/4’ English.

• You will need to be well-motivated and committed to attending classes and completing all coursework on time.

 

What can I do to prepare myself to study this subject?

You do not need to have done any Engineering qualifications before to join this course. You need to meet the college entry requirement for Level 3 study.

 

Where can this lead me?

It aims to provide a coherent introduction to study of the engineering sector.

It has been designed to support progression to higher education and ultimately employment when taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels.
