Helen Rand
Independent Governor
Please tell us a little bit about who you are and what you currently do with your time
I am a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Greenwich. My research interests are in the constructions of deviancy in gender and sexualities. I am passionate about student outcomes, with many students from Leyton Sixth Form College progressing to the University of Greenwich. I am interested in curriculum design and developing innovative assessments to equip students with the skills needed for the future of work.
Please tell us about any education or work experiences which are relevant to your role as a Governor
I have worked with young people throughout my career, as a youth worker for 10 years and more recently as a lecturer in academia.
Please tell us why you wanted to be a Governor for LSC specifically and what you hope to achieve in this role
I am a local resident and was impressed with the management of LSC. I have a vested interest in the college as I have a child who one day may be a student at the college. It is therefore important to me as both a mother and a local resident that the college thrives, attracts brilliant students and delivers outcomes that benefit the community.
