Joga Kabra

Independent Governor

Please tell us a little bit about who you are and what you currently do with your time

I came to the UK at the age of 12 and grew up in Peterborough. Thanks to fantastic support from teachers at secondary school and the local further education college I succeeded in obtaining a BA and MA from London University. After a career of over 30 years in schools and sixth form colleges I retired to spend more time with my family, play golf, travel and most importantly volunteered to work with number of charities committed to supporting those most in need in our very inequal society.

Please tell us about any education or work experiences which are relevant to your role as a Governor

From my own experience I am fully aware of how challenging it is for young people to succeed in our society. In my career in education both as a teacher and senior manager I fully understand the significance of how promoting self esteem and valuing high aspirations and educational achievement can enrich young people’s lives.

Please tell us why you wanted to be a Governor for LSC specifically and what you hope to achieve in this role

As a former teacher and senior manager at Leyton Sixth Form I have a good understanding of the challenges and ambitions the staff and senior managers face in ensuring all students are given the best support and a dynamic high quality education. Most importantly I am aware of my duties and responsibilities as a governor in ensuring LSC continues to be a centre of support and academic success.
