WHAT IS THE COURSE ABOUT?

It provides an opportunity for those who have an interest in media to explore, develop and test their creativity within a qualification structure which is stimulating and demanding and provides a supportive transition from general to more specialised study. You will have the opportunity to study and research a wide range of media genres, whilst planning and producing projects within film, audio, photography, web and desktop publishing.

DURATION OF COURSE:

 2 Years. Grading is through internal assessment and external moderation.  

 

WHAT UNITS/TOPICS WILL BE STUDIED?

You will study 8 units in total within the first tear of the course. Unit 1-7 are skills development units, where you will learn about contextual research, practical skills development, the creative media industry, audio visual and interactive aspects of the media course. Your final unit 8 is your FMP where you specialise in either film, photography, Journalism, desktop publishing or an interactive element base on the assignment and theme. Within the second year of the course you again will study and learn skills development units 9-12 which will include Characteristics and contexts in media and communications, engaging with an audience, preparing for progression and specialist study. Your final unit 13 is again the second year FMP where you specialise within your chosen media production

 

WHAT DO I NEED TO STUDY THIS SUBJECT?

You will need a G Score of 26 and a 4 in GCSE English.

 

WHAT CAN I DO TO PREPARE MYSELF TO STUDY THIS SUBJECT?

Ideally, you will have studied level 2 media at School, or show a committed interest and enthusiasm with your own personal media projects to prepare for this subject.

WHAT ARE THE ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES AS PART OF THIS SUBJECT.

As part of the course, we organize trips to the London Film Festival and other film-related events. Many of our students also take part in the BFI Film Academy, BBC Work placements and Wieden + Kennedy advertising agency. Recent guest speakers have included Oscar-Nominated Film Composer Gary Yershon.
