There's more to life at Leyton Sixth Form College than hard work...

Sport and Recreation
Our excellent sports facilities are open to all our students. On site we offer badminton, football, cricket, hockey, athletics, aerobics, judo, gymnastics, circuit training, trampolining, table tennis, indoor athletics and tae kwondo. We also use off-site facilities such as Waltham Forest Pool and Track and the Peter May Centre.

Student Council
The Student Council encourages students to share in College decision making and to organise their activities. Representatives are elected by the students and regular meetings are held with the Principal and senior managers. The Student Council is affiliated to the National Union of Students and LSC students may join the NUS if they wish.

Visits Abroad
Leyton Sixth Form College offers opportunities for students to travel abroad, from work placements to organised trips and exchanges. Last year, Language students had the chance to visit Berlin , Barcelona , Paris and Provence and they travelled to Lille in France on Eurostar. A level students have recently taken part in educational exchanges to Oviedo and Madrid in Spain which were funded by the European Union. Business Studies students have been to Cyprus , and Chemistry students have been to Hungary.

Travel and Tourism students have done work placements in Malta , Barcelona and Granada , Spain , with leading travel organisations. These trips have also been funded by the European Union.

Student Activities Co-ordinator
The College has an experienced Student Activities Co-ordinator, whose sole role is to organise activities for you outside College hours or during lunch breaks. This has become very popular, so look at the student activities notice board for up-to-date information on what's happening at College. If you have any ideas that you would like to see organised at the College let the Student Activities Co-ordinator know.

The activities offered include:

  • Archery
  • Camping
  • Regular first aid courses
  • Piano lessons
  • Vocal workshops
  • DJ sessions
  • Sumo wrestling
  • Crate stacking
  • Gladiator tournaments
  • Horse riding
  • Five-a-side football
  • Go-karting
  • High ropes course
  • Paintballing
  • Duke of Edinburgh's award programme

Visits
There are lots of opportunities to visit attractions and attend organised trips to the theatre, the IMAX cinema and the London Eye, as well as many theme parks and the Clothes Show Live. So don't just sit at home or hang around College, join in with the activities on offer and if they aren't what you want – let us know!

Spanish A level students recently attended a performance by the Spanish National Dance Company and all our language students are taken on visits to see foreign films. The year wouldn't be the same without the traditional fiesta organised by the languages department: music and foreign food!

Clubs and Societies
Students are encouraged to set up and run their own societies with the help of teachers and the Student Council. For example, we have an Amnesty International group, film club, games club, debating society, Christian youth, Muslim societies and chess club. Students are welcome to propose new societies at any time.

You will also have the opportunity to take part in College talent shows and the very popular leavers' prom for the upper sixth students, plus many more exciting activities.

Professional Development Opportunities
Universities and employers value students who in addition to academic success have a wide range of social skills. To promote this, Leyton students are encouraged to participate in mentoring projects, undertake ambassadorial roles and volunteer for a range of community projects. We also offer opportunities to undertake a range of enrichment courses including mentoring, Open University units, successful marketing and work experience accreditation.
