What is the course about?
The BTEC level 3 in Musical Theatre course is part of the LSC Expressive Arts department which has a long-standing reputation for excellence that comes from combining first-rate facilities, an unrivalled programme of performances and events, and specialised teachers. The Musical Theatre BTEC is a full time course with an emphasis placed on developing your performance skills in acting, singing and dance with an understanding of the Performing Arts industry. The course is vocationally delivered based upon the practice of the best Drama Schools. You will be formed into companies and given a real commission for each term. The units that make up the course will be assessed through these commissions at regular intervals. Every day starts with a warm up and technique classes and then you have rehearsal time for your commission. Our aim is to give you as varied a training as possible through industry relevant classes.

What units/topics will be studied?
Most of the work is project-based, and all is internally assessed by the Performing Arts team. You will study a variety of skills and techniques through units delivered through termly projects. The course comprises the three disciplines of Acting, Dance and Singing equally. Sample units are as follows: Urban Dance, Singing Technique, Acting for TV and Film, Jazz Dance, Musical Theatre Performance, Auditions for actors, Principles of Acting and Ballet.

What do I need to study this subject? 
Four A-C in GCSE. GCSE in Drama, Dance or BTEC L2 preferable but not essential, and a keen interest in Theatre and Performance.

What can I do to prepare myself to study this subject?
As with all of the Arts you should have a passion for Musical Theatre and be familiar with the many productions there are. As with common
professional practice this is by interview and audition. For the audition you must prepare one monologue, song or dance piece of 2 minutes
duration learned by heart. You will be invited to spend a day with us when you will join in varied workshops and present your piece so we can
assess your suitability for the course.

Where can this lead me?
The course has led many of our graduates to training at the world’s leading Drama Schools and Degree level at leading Universities. Recent graduates have gained places on top Performing Arts courses, such as the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Arts Educational, Mountview Academy and East 15 Acting School, with most students who gained these places achieving full scholarships.
