What is the course about?
If you interested in progressing to higher education, employment or an apprenticeship then this course is ideal for you. The course gives you practical experience in engineering and help develop the problem solving skills that will enable you to enter various engineering industries. The fundamental philosophy of this course is that, you actively experience the engineering environment including mechanical, electrical and electronics engineering.

The College has made substantial investments in its Engineering infrastructure; we have some of the latest software and a specialist network/hardware laboratory.
The course is run by highly trained and qualified teachers with a proven track record of high achievement at all levels.

BTEC L3 90-Credit Diploma in Engineering is equivalent to 1½ A-Levels. It can be converted into a BTEC L3 Extended Diploma in Engineering in Year 2, which is equivalent to three A Level.

What units/topics will be studied?
Overall the course consists of 18 units, 9 units in each year. Units include Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace, Electrical and Electronic Principles, Principles and Applications of Electronic Devices and Circuits, Engineering Drawing for Technicians, Mathematics for Engineering Technicians, Mechanical Principles and Applications

What can I do to prepare myself to study this subject?
You do not need to have done any Engineering qualifications before to join this course. You need to meet the college entry requirement for Level 3 study.

Where can this lead me?
The Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A levels and will allow for direct entry in to university or Employment / apprenticeship. The vast majority of our students use this course for entry to higher education.

 

Entry Requirements At least 5 GCSEs grades A* - C (or numerical equivalent) including ‘6’ in Maths and 4/5 in English.

You will need to be well-motivated and committed to attending classes and completing all coursework on time.
