What is the course about?
This is an art and design-based course specialising in the design and making of textiles for fashion, interiors and fine art.
Exam board: EDEXCEL
Duration of course: This is a two year linear A level, but students will be entered for the AS qualification as well in the first year.
What units/topics will be studied?
You will investigate screen and heat press printing, embroidery (hand and machine including digital) and constructed textiles (knitting/ weaving). You will also experiment with unusual materials such as latex or technology such as photoshop and laser cutting. Major projects during the second year allow the student to specialise in areas specific to individual talents and interests.
You will study a personal investigation unit and an externally set (exam) unit each year. The second year you will also do a written study.
What can I do to prepare myself to study this subject?
Visit museums and galleries in central London, including the V and A Dress collection and Fashion and Textile Museum. Where can this lead me?
You can progress onto a Foundation Diploma course or a degree in a range of art-based subjects, and careers in textile design, including fashion design, costume design and interior design

There are visits to galleries, museums, degree shows, workshops and opportunities to meet artists and designers.
