Students at Thorpe Hall Primary School
A group of Leyton Media students are currently involved in producing a campaigning documentary for a local Walthamstow school.
A dedicated group of parents at Thorpe Hall Primary school are campaigning and lobbying the council, and national organisations, for a new dining hall- cum-community resource. The present dining hall is a temporary building which is falling down. It only fits 120 children at a time, and there are 500 children at the school. There is no kitchen or refrigerator, and food is currently bussed in from another primary school. Many children have to eat their lunches in classrooms. The new Hale End Hall would be primarily used as a resource for the pupils at Thorpe Hall Primary School, so that fresh food could be cooked and served in a pleasant environment, which is fit for purpose. However it would also be used to accommodate local community groups, such as parent and baby groups and fitness classes. The hall would cost in excess of £300,000.
Leyton students spent a busy and exciting day with a group of Year 6 children on 1st February, planning and filming footage for a campaigning documentary. Leyton students are currently editing the documentary to hand over to the school and distribute locally and nationally to raise awareness of this important community campaign. Follow the progress of Hale End Hall on http://haleendhall.com/ and watch this space for the completed documentary, which is coming soon.
Presented jointly by students from Leyton Sixth College, and those from local schools who are participating in the 'In the Spotlight' project, this event will showcase student work in various styles, from classical music to pop and RnB.
