Tuesday 4th July saw LSC’s sports department host the LSC Lions Sports Awards ceremony. A high number of students attended the event that celebrated students’ sporting achievements throughout the year. The students turned up dressed to impress for the occasion, which was especially lucky since an interactive Magic Mirror had been provided to take their selfies in.
During the evening, students received either their half or full sports colours, and it was great to see newbies and fully fledged college legends being awarded for all their amazing contributions.
Special Achievement Awards were also given out, starting with Weronika Rosinska who was the deserving winner of the Sports Ambassador of the Year award. Eashan Khan also bagged himself the All Rounder of the Year award, and LSC’s hugely successful Men’s Basketball Academy team took home the Team of the Year prize.
The Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards also went to two fantastic basketball players with Deividas Lygutas and Itziar Fernandez taking the wins. It was also revealed that next year will have LSC’s first Sports Captains, who will be Bilal Saci and Carla Pedro, with Titas Zydelis and Samara Williams appointed as Vice Captains. These guys will be at the forefront of promoting and encouraging sports participation, so look out for them from September onwards.
Entertainment was supplied by freestyle footballer Colin Nell who shared some motivational words of wisdom, as well as putting on a fantastic display of balling prowess. Later Colin also invited some students up to try their hand at some football freestyling of their own, in which basketballer Ethan Okyne found himself to be the unlikely winner of a head to head competition, despite booting the ball into the audience at one point!
As well as plenty of laughs, there was also some tears shed after having to bid a sad farewell to our longstanding Sports Maker Naomi Bartlett, who will be moving on from LSC after over four years with us. Students Ange Miege and Erica De Melo gave some very touching tributes and nicely summed up just how much of an impact Naomi has had on us all.
All in all it was a very fun and memorable evening and we can’t wait to do it all again next year!
Until then though from all the Sports team, we hope you all have a great summer!
