Students studying the UALab Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology have been working with Age UK Waltham Forest on a social action campaign. Age UK Waltham Forest provide a range of services to local elders, including classes, information and advice, and befriending.  In some parts of the borough, such as Chingford, there is a waiting list for befrienders of up to nine months. Leyton Media students were tasked with the job of promoting and raising awareness of the befriending service, and getting more local people to volunteer with Age UK WF.

Over a period of several months, the students worked with Terry Day and Claire Ford at Age UK, researching the issue, interviewing older adults and volunteers, and gathering material for their campaign. The outcome is a brand new volunteering page on Facebook, a poster / leaflet campaign, and a promotional video featuring elders and volunteers.  There will also be a launch event at LSC on Wednesday 13th March.  We are proud of the finished campaign. Please watch our video, and like and share our Facebook page.  We hope that you will consider signing up to be a volunteer befriender for a local elder. No one should have no one.
