Leyton Media students had a workshop with John Pocock, the producer of award winning Channel 4 comedy show “Chewing Gum”, BBC3’s “Some Girls” and BBC’s “The Kumars.” John has also produced a number of children’s shows on CBBC, including “Hotel Trubble.”
John spoke to students about how he started out in his television career, the work of a producer and of various other key production roles. We heard about his experiences of co-producing “Chewing Gum” with writer and star Michaela Coel aka Tracey, and the details of writing, scripting, planning, shooting and editing television. John gave students lots of useful tips on getting into television and showed us some real scripts and call sheets from the show. This linked to the work students were doing on TV drama and in particular, the importance of location, character and camera. It was a fun and useful workshop and we hope that John will come to visit us again soon, or that we can organise a site visit to one of his up-coming shows.
