Careers, Employability and Progression
At LSC we commit to provide advice and guidance to all our students to help them make an informed decision about their future career aim. From the application interview and subsequently at enrolment, we work with students to ensure that the study programme is appropriate to destination aims and wider interests. LSC tutors, teachers and careers staff all have an input into the process of enabling students to regularly review their educational and career ambitions during their time at college and are responsive to changes in aspirations and interests.
Good quality careers education raises the aspirations of all young people and increase motivation by linking activities in school with preparation for life post 18. Careers Education, Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) therefore contribute to raising students’ achievement, help them focus on their longer-term career ambitions and ensure an equality of opportunity for all.
College Careers Service
The college has a dedicated Careers Centre with our own qualified Careers Advisors.
All students are entitled to careers interviews and are encouraged to use the Careers Centre’s extensive resources to undertake research into future careers paths, including university, apprenticeships and employment options.

Careers Guidance
The Career advice offer is on-going throughout the academic year, accessible to all students, being delivered through guidance time with our qualified advisors and is enhanced by careers events, where we work with Universities, Apprenticeship providers and businesses.
Students are informed on aspects of work-related learning, enterprise education and option available, allowing them to make decisions regarding applications to University, Higher Level Apprenticeships, or employment post 18 pathways.

Employability
We understand the importance in providing a vast range of extended activities to complement students’ programme of study. We will ensure that students have access and benefit from different experiences in the workplace, which provides employability skills and covers a range of areas, all of which supports students in building valuable core skills they need for their future career choices.
This includes:
- Meaningful work-related activity during your programme of study at LSC, like work experience, volunteering, shadowing, etc.;
- Industry Training Opportunity programme (InTO), where students attend a minimum of 315h of Industry Placement in your area of study and interest;
- Opportunities for online employability skills training;
- Wide offer of opportunities, including workshops, talks and webinars with guest employers and businesses, insight days, visits, as well as regular in-house sessions and resources on employability skills, which will inform your decision-making so you can emerge from the College prepared for the world of work.
Progression
Over 600 LSC students go on to university each year, including students from both A level and Vocational courses, including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, Edinburgh, UCL, LSE and Bristol. Some also go to specialist art and music schools. Undergraduate studies include Medicine, Dentistry, Modern Languages, Aerospace Engineering, Economics, English, Business subjects and many others.
The college also has formal partnerships with Russell Group University, Queen Mary University of London, Bloomsbury Institute, University of Greenwich and the University of Roehampton. Students also have access to university masterclasses and visits to universities such as Oxford and Cambridge.
An increasing number of our students seek alternative career progression routes and are supported in their research and applications for apprenticeships, employment and gap year projects.
Career Programme 2023-24
The careers team run progression and employability events each year, where students can meet a range of universities, employers, and apprenticeship providers. These along with subject based activities and tutorial support ensure that all students have the advice and information needed to progress to higher education, a career or further education at Leyton or another college.

LSC acknowledges the crucial input by parents/carers in relation to helping learners make informed choices about their future careers prospect.
The College will work closely with parents/carers and inform them of their son's/daughter's progress and future career goals by keeping them informed and publishing the Careers Programme.
Information for Parents and Carers
At LSC, we believe the engagement and participation of parents and carers play an influential role in supporting students to make informed decisions and choices about their future careers prospect.
The College will work closely with parents/carers, who are welcomed to contact the Careers Centre and get information on their child’s progress and future career goals.

Measuring impact
The College will assess the impact of its careers programmes on students by completing an annual student survey and analysing destinations data in line with activities that they have taken part in at school. In addition, the views of students and parents will be surveyed through feedback and suggestions provided through the website and after key events e.g. Parents’ consultation Evening and Open days.

National Careers Service – a comprehensive careers website with job profiles, outlining: the skills required, main tasks, pay levels and career prospects for hundreds of different jobs. In addition, valuable guidance on the different stages involved in getting a job.
Apprenticeships – a website for anyone wanting to know more about apprenticeships. The website has a search facility for job specific apprenticeships in a particular area.

UCAS – a very helpful website for students thinking of applying to higher education. Also contains valuable information on different options, including apprenticeships
